What is this position about?
The role is for a mid-level securities services lawyer to sit in the Securities Services legal team in Hong Kong. The successful candidate will draw on their securities services related experience to provide ongoing legal advice to the business line in respect of fund administration matters (including hedge fund administration services, transfer agency, middle office services), ETF participating dealer services, fund trustee services, as well as local custody and securities clearing services.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute within these areas from a legal perspective and will support, and directly liaise and coordinate with, various internal stakeholders within the bank, both locally and internationally.
What would your typical day at BNPP Paribas look like?
Primary Role Responsibilities
In this role, you will be involved in:
•Providing legal advice, legal support and managing legal risks for the Securities Services business in Hong Kong.
•Providing legal and regulatory advice to the business on new products and services and proactively anticipating legal issues and identifying legal requirements.
•Reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements (including amendments) relating to the business and other service providers.
•Identifying and mitigating legal risk within the business by implementing appropriate legal controls and policies where necessary.
•Drafting legal disclaimers, reviewing incidents and providing legal advice in respect of good value claims.
•Developing and maintaining standard legal documentation for all products and services offered in Hong Kong taking into account local requirements and global standards.
•Keeping up to date with the regulatory and legal environment in Hong Kong and applying required changes to Securities Services’ framework including standard documentation.
•Engaging and managing relationships with external legal advisors as necessary.
•Providing reporting to Legal management (including APAC Head of Legal for Securities Services), local Securities Services Committees, and local management as and when required.
•Work with lawyers within the Securities Services Hong Kong Legal team to develop/maintain relevant policies and procedures, develop/share know how and implement best practices.
•Contribute to functional governance and reporting processes, for the sharing of knowhow and escalation / management of risks.
•Advising Business and preparing Legal comments for the purpose of Transaction Approval Committees and/or other internal committees.
•Building and maintaining constructive working relationships with law firms in in Hong Kong and with peer professionals at other investment banks.
What is required for you to succeed?
Technical and behavioral competencies
•Expertise and technical knowledge of key securities services products, including fund administration, transfer agency, middle office, custody and clearing services and the legal and regulatory framework underpinning these.
•Proactive, self-motivated and confident individual, able to manage a diverse workload and interact comfortably and convincingly with Business and other stakeholders within the bank.
•Able to deal with a robust and demanding internal client base, including by handling multiple matters simultaneously and by meeting tight deadlines when required.

Specific Qualifications Required
•Hong Kong qualified lawyer with a minimum 6 years’ post qualification experience in the financial services sector. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to operate independently and to apply judgement and knowledge to various situations, including regulation evaluation and oversight of any subsequent implementation.
•With demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional and technical development, the candidate is committed to staying a step ahead – and as such possesses the ability to anticipate and identify areas of focus or concern with regard to key risk and legal management.
•On the job training will be provided to address any experience gaps.
•Fluency (written and spoken) in English.
