RISK Operational Risk Management (RISK ORM) CIB belongs to the second line of defence of BNP Paribas Corporate and Institutional Bank (CIB). It belongs to the Risk Function (RISK) of BNP Paribas and is placed under the responsibility of the Head of RISK ORM CIB, who reports to the CRO of CIB. 

The CIB Business and RISK ORM CIB are in a journey to adapt Digital Assets (DA) and related technologies in multiple business activities. This role will be acting as a second line of defence for DA projects and will have the responsibility for oversight and supervision on risks due to use of such technologies for CIB, ensuring and opining that appropriate DA-relevant risk management efforts are underway and raise any alerts in case of issues to the stability of the Bank and influencing business, functions and technology partners to take sound risk management decisions.

 

Your Main Activities Are

 

The Operational Risk Officer (ORO) – Digital Assets specialist is a risk manager and the role will have three key dimensions of responsibilities. The candidate is expected to - 

  • RISK ORM CIB Co-ordination - coordinate the oversight and supervision of the DA-relevant risk management activities by collaborating with Business line OROs in Global Markets, Global Banking and Securities Services business lines as a priority and then extend the collaboration to cover functions and ITO. 
  • Technical expert - Be the central point of contact and technical expertise centre to deal with any DA risk management aspects 
  • RISK ORM co-ordination - Coordinate and collaborate with the respective Group RISK ORM teams on DA risk management 

 

Profile and Skills to Success

 

The successful candidate will be an expert in digital asset technologies and their associated risks, with a proven ability to navigate the complexities of this evolving landscape within a large, regulated financial institution. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing the operational risk framework specifically tailored for digital assets, ensuring robust controls and risk mitigation strategies are in place.

This role requires a strong leader with exceptional influencing and negotiation skills, as you will be indirectly managing and coordinating the efforts of other Operational Risk Officers (OROs) embedded within the business lines who are also covering digital assets. 

The role requires: 

  • Deep Expertise in Digital Assets: Comprehensive understanding of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, tokenization, smart contracts, decentralized finance (DeFi), and other relevant digital asset concepts and their underlying technical infrastructure.
  • Financial Services Acumen: Solid understanding of corporate and institutional banking products, services, and operations.
  • Leadership and coordination skills to influence, inform and consult with other experts and risk managers in RISK ORM CIB and in CIB
  • Good listening and analytical skills – being able to come to a thoughtful and business focused conclusion quickly.
  • Ability to express views clearly and fluently, both orally and in writing. Considers the audience, avoiding technical jargon wherever necessary and appropriate. 
  • Fluent English is required and basic level of French is preferred. 

 

Competencies

 

  • University master graduate or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Prior experience or practical understanding in previous roles may include but not limited to Front/Middle/Back Office, IT, Operations or Functional role(s).
  • Preferred candidates should possess robust knowledge of banking products in the area of Corporate and Institutional Banking.
