About the job

  • The Operational Risk Specialist contributes to the implementation of all the components of Operational Risk & Permanent Control Framework in BNP Paribas CIB activities, providing supervision over the 1st Line of Defense in terms of Operational Risk with a deep knowledge and expertise of operational processes, risks and the permanent control framework. The department is responsible for independently challenging and supervising the Operational Risk management of CIB activities (Global Banking, Global Markets, Securities Services, Information Technology (IT), Operations and Functions) on a worldwide scope

Your Main Activities Are

  • Participate, contribute and lead the risk community at CIB and/or Group level, sharing and providing guidance to Operational Risk Officers covering other Business Lines
  • Participate and provide a risk opinion in TAC/NAC or RAF when requested and provide guidance for the risk opinion of other Senior team members
  • Contribute to Operational Risk awareness across BNP Paribas CIB
  • Support the team lead and other senior team members by providing them training and guidance
  • Propose and support definition and deployment of 2nd line of defense control plan
  • Perform the quality review of historical incidents and share results with OPCs and management. Challenge the different aspects of significant incidents. Alert senior management in case of significant historical incidents
  • Follow-up on actions plans, recommendations (issued by Regulator, Inspection Generale or RISK ORM)
  • Contribute, perform or supervise the execution of 2LoD Controls (independent testing) with the aim of enhancing the control framework
  • Develop strong relationships with 1LoD (CCCO, OPC teams, Business & Operations, Front Office) allowing to reach agreements when necessary
  • Contribute and supervise the check and challenge process of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) provided by the 1LoD, by challenging the Intrinsic Risk and the Control Framework rating, agreeing on the Residual Risk and Action plan to mitigate the identified residual risks

Profile and Skills to Success

  • Master’s Degree in Economics / Finance / Accounting / Business Management or related
  • At least 7 years of experience in Banking and Financial Operations or similar
  • At least 5 years of experience in Risk and Controls or similar            
  • Advanced level of English, both written and oral
  • Knowledge in MS Office Pack (Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to share / pass on knowledge
  • Ability to synthetise / simplify
  • Communication skills, both written and oral
  • Critical thinking
  • Proactivity
