One of the Domains in CIB ITO Production is DataOps

CIB IT Digital Factories provides DataOps solutions of which automated discovery and change tracking are core services. Automated discovery is a highly mature capability within BNP Paribas CIB and provides mission critical data for a wide range of customers and consumer systems. These range between BAU activities, small to large projects, high visibility programs, risk assessments and internal/external audits.

Within the DataOps branch, the Discovery & Tracking team manages and maintains CIB’s worldwide deployment of BMC Discovery

Position Purpose

BMC Discovery has been CIB’s primary automated discovery solution since 2010.

As part of an internal program, one of the critical focusses is on IT Asset Obsolescence. BMC Discovery has been flagged as a process-critical tool to provide data for: run time environment & environment management software, technical & operational software, bespoke software and business software. The data required is primarily software product version data. The core activities will be BMC Discovery TPL development, testing and release management.  Engage with the vendor BMC to ascertain the TKU supportability of each product and with internal software subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

 

Direct Responsibilities

 

-       Contribute to data obsolescence activities, coordinate with and report updates to the Discovery & Tracking team manager and the S&T Obsolescence team

-       Within the defined scope of the S&T Obsolescence team, you will focus on COTS & bespoke software

o    Iteratively work through a scope list of software products and ascertain if the vendor (BMC) will support the discovery of the software

o    Work with internal subject matter experts to understand software profile

o    Develop, test and release custom software discovery solutions

o    Troubleshoot discovered software version data coverage and quality issues

-       Work with the Discovery & Tracking team to understand the development, testing and release process and tools. This is a critical aspect of the role as the Discovery & Tracking team have a tightly-controlled release management process of new code into production

-       Attend “peer-review” meetings with the Discovery & Tracking team’s technical lead to review custom TPL code during testing phase and prior to go live

-       Submit change requests for production go-live of custom solutions for obsolescence data enhancements

-       Perform ongoing data analysis to check/validate data performance of newly released data solutions

-       Interact with vendor to progress enhancements for knowledge library (TKU) software data 

-       Provide background support for BMC Discovery global application platform

-       DevOps tools for the development and release of new TPL code – Bitbucket, GitHub, Artifactory and some bespoke tools

-       Understanding of the criticality of good obsolescence data

-       Data analytics: A good aptitude in looking at data, data gaps & data trends. Understand requirements & actions from performing data analysis

-       Relationship management: Work well with external vendors, Obsolescence team and Discovery & Tracking team

-       Good task management, prioritisation, risk management

-       Appreciation of production processes, including change and release management

 

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

-       Expert knowledge in BMC Discovery (formerly ADDM). Specifics around customization and data enhancements utilizing the BMC Discovery pattern language (TPL)

-       Excellent understanding of the BMC Discovery data model & query language

-       Excellent understanding of BMC’s knowledge base (TKU) solutions for hardware, OS and software obsolescence

-       Report writing using BMC Discovery query language.
