Greenval Insurance DAC is a non-life insurance company specialising in fleet motor insurance. An Irish company created in 2007 owned by Arval, part of BNP Paribas group. To date, Greenval insures in excess of 980,560 + vehicles; Greenval Insurance offers liability and damage cover specifically designed for the fleet business and is dedicated to customers of the Arval Group.

 

As part of the BNP Paribas Group, the company is seeking a credible and brand-aware individual that can manage the company’s different risks and exposures while delivering an active commercial roadmap on time and within budget. As part of the Arval group, the MD will be expected to be, or quickly become familiar with, all aspects of operational leasing and insurance as part of same.



Key Responsibilities

Governance, Board & Regulatory Oversight

  • PCF responsibilities associated with the position. The role holder’s PCF status would be subject to the approval of the regulator.
  • Active member of the Board and its three committees – Risk, Audit & Investments.
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of quarterly Board packs and associated deliverables.
  • Monthly Board reporting on day‑to‑day results and issues. Report all incidents, errors and near‑misses to the Board/Committees.
  • Signatory of all major payments & significant contracts in line with Board risk‑appetite.
  • Implement BNPP Group and Board decisions on products, policy, underwriting, accounting and risk management.
  • Implement all relevant BNPP Group policies, IT‑security & financial‑security standards.
  • Report to and liaise with the Central Bank of Ireland and other international regulators – custody of the Solvency II model, embed the ORSA model in decision‑making.

 

Strategic Direction & Business Development

  • Define & cascade Arval’s insurance strategy (aligned with “Arval 26 & Beyond” plan).
  • Deliver the Strategic Medium‑Term Plan – financial targets (premium volume, fleet insured, profit), solvency limits, BNPP dividend.
  • Adapt existing offers and create innovative product developments in line with strategy.
  • Drive insurance product promotion to raise penetration (share of leased assets insured).
  • Align product & service road‑maps with new‑mobility trends and driver‑safety initiatives.
  • Represent Arval with partners, prospects and clients on insurance matters.

 

Financial Management & Performance Monitoring

  • Ensure the company maintains adequate internal, accounting and financial controls; report to the Board, shareholder and Arval Group as required.
  • Co‑build & validate insurance budgets with country units & Group Finance.
  • Review total insurance NBI (RR revenues, AXM fees, Greenval income, intermediation revenues).
  • Monitor KPIs – claim frequency, average cost/premium, claim reserves (OSLR, IBNR), insurance margin.
  • Ensure consistency of provisioning per Group guidelines.
  • Verify all insurance programmes comply with local regulations (Insurance Distribution Directive, Solvency II) & Group standards. Embed ORSA in decision‑making. 
  • Report monthly/quarterly Board packs on financial results, targets and variances.

 

Risk Management, Compliance & Control

  • Technical structuring of efficient global & local insurance schemes – full legal & fiscal compliance.
  • Identify, propose and monitor risk‑prevention measures (e.g., climate‑change impacts) to limit financial & operational exposure.
  • Manage & monitor outsourcing activities to ensure quality delivery and minimise operational risk.
  • Oversee IT/Digital projects to ensure end‑to‑end insurance process efficiency (distribution → claims).
  • Ensure consistent application of Group policies – risk management, provisions, procurement, etc.
  • Reporting of all incidents, errors and near‑misses.

 

Process Optimisation

  • Optimize repair & claims‑management processes with Global Operations, leveraging digital tools.
  • Ensure efficient claims reserves management (OSLR, IBNR) & accurate provisioning.
  • Develop Greenval Insurance as an insurance‑expertise centre for the Arval Group and support other Arval companies as requested.
  • Work closely with Corporate Marketing (Products team), Global Operations, IT/Digital, Finance and the Insurance Committee to align strategy, product development and execution.

 

People, Culture & Stakeholder Management

  • Take responsibility for deploying the Human Resources strategy – attract, train and retain experts; manage disciplinary and performance issues; balance risk & reward.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance & best practice sharing to the network of local insurance managers
  • Leverage excellent stakeholder‑management skills- represent the company at Territory level and with external partners, prospects and clients on insurance matters.


 

Additional duties

  • Control monthly management reporting including premiums, claims, reinsurance covers, business and risk indicators, etc.
  • Presentation of the company’s budget and its strategy in Paris.
  • Maintaining systems and controls to ensure adequate backup documentation and audit trails. 
  • Assisting with and managing the relationship with the auditors.
  • Monitoring compliance with all tax and statutory requirements- keep up to date with all legislative and tax changes. 
  • Bringing a commercial point of view to the financial and actuarial.
  • Management of various reporting timetables to ensure deadlines are met, including delivery of internal reporting and consolidation reporting towards the Group
  • Analysis of results and key performance indicators
  • Contribute to industry expert groups
  • Own or be willing to create a network that can add value to the company’s activities



Qualifications & Experience required for this role

  • Experience managing mid-sized company, preferably in insurance / financial sector
  • Proven talent management and leadership skills
  • Non-life insurance background. Long tail liability, product launch & design, and motor insurance a clear advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Proven ability to analyse financial data, statements and projections including actuarial assumptions.
  • Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills in English and another European language.  French is a clear advantage.
  • Third level qualification and 5- 10+ relevant years of experience.
  • Active Member of the Insurance Institute of Ireland, Institute of Directors or equivalent
  • Approved or capable of being an approved CEO / Managing Director under the Fitness & Probity standards (PCF).
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively within Europe as required.
