About Business Line/Function:
The AML IT function sits within the BNP Paribas Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) CEFS‑technology ecosystem and provides end‑to‑end technology platform that enables the bank’s anti‑money‑laundering (AML) program. Its core purpose is to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into robust, scalable, and secure IT solutions that detect, investigate, and report suspicious activity across the Group’s global operations.
The AML IT business line is the technology backbone that transforms raw transaction data into actionable AML intelligence, ensuring that BNP Paribas CIB meets its regulatory obligations while maintaining operational resilience and innovation.
Position Purpose:
The role centers on creating next‑generation AML capabilities and will be instrumental in protecting the BNPP Group from fraud, money‑laundering, and other financial crimes using advanced technologies and innovative solutions.
As a Java Technical Architect, you will lead the transformation of the CEFS AML platform into a robust, scalable, cloud‑native architecture. This position is vital for shaping the technical vision, strategy, and execution of AML initiatives, thereby strengthening the organization’s overall risk management.
While direct AML experience is not mandatory, strong architectural expertise and the ability to quickly master AML concepts are essential. The role will operate within a globally distributed environment.
Direct Responsibilities
- Lead the design and end‑to‑end architecture of the target‑state AML platform – data ingestion, enrichment, analytics, alert generation, and case‑management.
- Define the Java‑centric, cross‑technology architecture (micro‑services, event‑driven pipelines, APIs, orchestration) on a cloud‑native, event‑driven model.
- Partner with compliance SMEs, data‑science teams, and engineering squads to deliver high‑throughput, low‑latency processing (millions of transactions/day) that meets regulatory detection, investigation and reporting requirements.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and privacy (GDPR/CCPA) across the platform.
- Enable machine‑learning model integration for anomaly detection, transaction clustering, and network analysis.
- Conduct architectural and code reviews, apply security controls, enforce best practices, and mentor junior engineers – all in line with the organization’s architectural standards.
- Champion DevOps automation (shift‑left testing, shift‑right monitoring) and drive an “automation‑first” mindset to reduce manual hand‑offs.
- Own technical feasibility studies for emerging technologies (graph databases, stream‑processing frameworks, explainable AI) and present findings to the architectural governance forum (ITSVC).
Technical and behavioral Competencies:
- Strong expertise in Java, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architecture
- Hands on experience in software development using Java/J2EE technologies, frameworks (e.g. Spring, Hibernate), messaging (e.g. MQ)
- Proficiency with data pipelines, ETL/ELT, and big‑data platforms (Spark, Flink, Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Strong knowledge of relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle) and NoSQL/graph databases (Neo4j, JanusGraph).
- Experienced in caching technologies like Redis or Apache Ignite.
- Troubleshooting & Performance tuning using any profiling tools e.g. Dynatrace, JProfiler etc.
- Solid experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), Docker, Kubernetes. Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, IaC, serverless computing, observability stacks (e.g. ELK, Grafana, Prometheus)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability & willingness to learn & work on diverse technologies (languages, frameworks, and tools)
- Ability to produce high-quality architectural documents and standards.
Nice to have skills:
- Additional programming languages (Python, Scala, etc.).
- Cloud‑native architecture certifications – AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Architect.
- Enterprise architecture frameworks – TOGAF, Zachman.
- Experience with AML‑focused open‑source tools (SAR‑ML, OpenAML, rule engines).
- Exposure to machine‑learning frameworks (Scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and model‑deployment pipelines.
- Familiarity with AML regulatory reporting standards (FATF, 5AMLD, FinCEN).
