Job Description – AML Lead Business Analyst

About Business line/Function:

The AML IT function within BNP Paribas CIB’s CEFS-technology delivers an end-to-end IT platform supporting the bank’s AML program. It converts regulatory and compliance rules into scalable, secure IT solutions to detect, investigate, and report suspicious activity globally.

As the technology backbone, it processes transaction data into actionable AML insights, ensuring regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and innovation.

Position Purpose

This next-gen AML role strengthens BNPP Group’s defenses against financial crime by leveraging cutting-edge tech and innovation.

As a Lead Business Analyst, you’ll drive requirements gathering, process optimization, and business analysis for AML functions, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and regulatory alignment. The role applies Agile, BDD, and test automation in a global, distributed team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead AML requirements—gather, analyze, and document regulatory and business needs (FATF, EU AMLD, OFAC) through stakeholder workshops and data-driven gap analysis.
  • Bridge business & tech—translate complex rules into BRDs, user stories, and functional specs, ensuring clarity for Ops, Compliance, and IT teams.
  • Design & validate solutions—drive feasibility studies, PoCs, and demos, aligning with architecture standards and presenting to governance committees.
  • Own Agile delivery—break down epics into user stories (Gherkin), refine backlogs, and ensure sprint execution with Product Owners and Dev teams.
  • Strengthen testing & quality—collaborate with QA on test automation (Selenium/Cucumber), oversee UAT, and validate compliance and performance.
  • Drive change & adoption—develop training, release comms, and post-go-live support to ensure smooth transitions and user buy-in.
  • Mentor & upskill—coach teams on AML best practices, Agile/BDD methods, and regulatory trends to build functional expertise.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

Mandatory Skills:

  • Expertise in end-to-end system design—proven experience as a Lead Business Analyst in architecting complex, multi-module systems, mapping workflows, data flows, and integrations with precision.
  • Sharp analytical & process acumen—ability to decode business needs, foresee challenges, and translate them into actionable application and operational requirements.
  • Data-driven problem-solving—skills to analyze complex datasets, ensure data governance and lineage, and design solutions with seamless workflows and data flows across systems.
  • Technical fluency—strong grasp of technical infrastructure (databases, APIs, web services) and how they interconnect for data sharing and system interoperability.
  • Clear & impactful communication—ability to simplify complex processes and articulate them effectively for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Test automation proficiency—experience with automated testing tools (e.g., Cucumber) and BDD frameworks (e.g., Gherkin).
  • API & database expertise—hands-on skills in SQL/PL-SQL, API definitions (e.g., Swagger), and documentation (FSD, BRDs, API specs).
