Job Title: Assistant Manager - Automation Testing
Department: GM IT
About Business line/Function:
The Global Markets (GM) business of BNP Paribas helps its Corporate and Institutional clients leverage capital markets across the globe for their financing, risk management and investment needs. This encompasses a wide range of financial products ranging from Foreign exchange to complex Equity Derivatives that are traded in financial markets across the globe 24/7. IT systems are integral to the business and are a key part of the value proposition to clients. These IT systems range from industry standard products for standard process automation to internally developed, often, market leading IT applications. The IT teams owning these IT systems are made up of functions that include Technical and Application production support, Business Analysis & Project Management, Development & Maintenance and Quality Control. BNP Paribas India Solutions is an equal partner in these IT functions along with colleagues in other locations including Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore & Hong Kong. This partnership ranges from sharing the IT workload, executing global strategy to owning global applications offshore. The technology and engineering landscape is wide, encompassing almost all techniques and platforms. It continues to evolve and transform with the market with the business continuing to invest in it.
Position Purpose:
We are looking for an Automation tester who has deep-dive hands on experience in developing or designing test automation scripts on Selenium using any programming language (Java/Python). The successful candidate will be able to – contribute or design high quality, innovative and fully performing test automation framework in compliance with coding standards and technical design.
Beyond building scalable frameworks, the candidate will be the catalyst for integrating AI into our testing ecosystem. Candidates should have minimum 7+ years of experience only in automation testing.
Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field of test automation. We are looking for a technical authority who can merge traditional automation mastery with AI innovation to accelerate our release cycles and maximize productivity.
Responsibilities
Direct Responsibilities
1. Framework Architecture & Design
· End-to-End Design: Design, develop, and maintain a robust, modular test automation framework (UI, API, and Integration) that is scalable and easy for other engineers to contribute to.
· Tooling Strategy: Identify and adopt top-tier testing tools (e.g. Selenium) in Java or Python to meet our application’s specific needs
· Design Patterns: Implement industry-standard design patterns (Page Object Model, Factory, Singleton, or BDD) to ensure code maintainability and reduce duplication.
· Test Data Strategy: Create automated solutions for test data setup, cleanup, and management to ensure test independence and reliability.
· Version Control Strategy: Design a modular repository structure in GitHub/Bitbucket and branching strategy to enable multi-team collaboration and seamless versioning.
2. DevOps & Integration
· Pipeline Ownership: Perform the integration of automated suites into the CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) to enable gated check-ins and automated regression.
· Cloud Execution: Architect the execution of tests in parallel across multiple cloud based server systems
· Observability: Implement advanced reporting and dashboards to provide real-time visibility into quality metrics for stakeholders.
3. Functional/Regression testing
· Execute and maintain core test cases (regression, sanity) across web, mobile and API surfaces.
· Produce test plans, coverage matrices, and risk-based test prioritization aligned with market requirements
· Provide clear defect documentation, severity assignment, and root cause analysis
Own defect triage with developers, product owners, and risk/compliance teams.
· Should have knowledge in any test management tools (ALM/JIRA/TFS)
4. Technical Leadership
· Code Governance: Act as the final gatekeeper for automation code quality through rigorous code reviews and the establishment of coding standards.
· Mentorship: Guide and mentor juniors, helping them evolve their coding skills and architectural thinking.
· Collaboration: Partner with Development Architects to ensure the application is designed for testability (e.g., implementing unique test IDs, API hooks).
· Deliver regular KPI dashboards (test coverage, defect leakage, automation ROI).
5. AI Initiatives
· AI-Driven Optimization: Implement AI solutions to solve common automation challenges, such as Self-Healing locators to reduce script breakage
· AI Productivity Tooling: Evaluate and deploy AI coding assistants across the QA team to improve scripting productivity, refactor legacy code, or solve complex automation blockers
· AI Functional Test Case Generation: Evaluate use of AI to generate functional tests from JIRA or create JIRAs from user stories
Contributing Responsibilities
· Contribute ideas for risk‑based testing, coverage matrices, and test‑automation road‑maps.
· Lead knowledge‑sharing sessions
· Participate in retrospectives, propose process tweaks, and help implement agreed‑upon actions
· Assist with Cross‑Team Collaboration
· Stay Current with Industry Practices
· Introduce Lightweight Automation – build simple UI or API scripts (e.g., using Cypress, Playwright, or Postman) for repetitive functional checks
