Introduction of the Role
We are looking for a Head of Finance in our BNP Paribas Romania Branch to manage directly or indirectly all the Financial Processes of our entity which covers both Corporate and Institutional Banking and to fast-growing Shared Services Centre (SSC) activities.
You will act as the pivotal link between the branch, the SSC, and our global Finance network (Madrid, Lisbon, Paris, India & other EMEA locations). You will shape finance and control processes, drive the development of the growing SSC and Territory activities from a Finance perspective, oversee the near-shored finance processes and ensure accurate and timely local regulatory reporting and tax compliance.
You will also actively contribute to future Finance organisation‑development programmes, ensuring alignment with the Head‑Office and CEE Finance strategy.
The role reports to the CFO, Central & Eastern Europe (CEE).
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Operations
- Lead the end‑to‑end finance function for the Romania branch, covering oversight of near-shored processes, monthly closing, control & reporting.
- Ensure transfer‑pricing invoicing, cost‑allocation and expense‑accounting for the local business and SSC activities.
- Develop the Finance business fronting activity to support the SSC budgeting, cost allocation, cost‑control and continuous‑improvement agenda, identifying efficiency opportunities and supporting scalable growth.
Stakeholder & Team Management
- Act as the primary liaison for the near-shored teams, CEE Finance, Finance EMEA, and Head Office Paris on all financial matters.
- Build strong partnerships with business units, tax & legal stakeholders and external authorities.
- Lead, motivate and develop a hybrid finance team, promoting collaboration across locations and time zones.
Regulatory, Tax & Control
- Ensure full compliance with Romanian statutory and regulatory reporting, IFRS, and Group accounting standards.
- Direct the tax compliance and planning process, including transfer‑pricing policies, VAT management and global minimum tax implementation.
- Champion internal control frameworks, risk‑assessment and audit coordination in line with Group methodologies.
Strategic Projects & SSC Development
- Own and deliver key finance‑related projects that enhance the SSC capabilities and territory‑function performance.
- Develop local regulatory reporting activities and act as a key stakeholder and contributor in the take-on of a new local regulatory reporting tool
- Contribute to Group‑wide finance transformation initiatives, leveraging SAP, AI, Tableau/Power BI and other digital tools.
What qualities do we look for?
We expect very good knowledge in the following areas:
- 7 + years in finance within banking/financial services; ≥3 years in a senior finance leadership role (Finance Business Partner, Head of Finance, etc.). Experience with Shared Services Centres or cross‑border finance operations is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Romanian regulatory reporting, tax legislation, IFRS, and Group accounting standards. Proficiency in SAP, Excel & Power‑BI.
- Proven ability to lead on‑site & remote team members, influence senior stakeholders, and drive change in a fast‑growing environment.
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field; professional certifications (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CFA) are a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in Romanian and English (both written and spoken)
- Willingness to go hands-on, Solution‑focused, analytical, excellent communicator, resilient, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
