Business Overview:

This a VP level role that will report to the head of Front Office Tax Advisory on the US Tax team.  Successful candidates will have experience with US taxation of banks and broker dealers, strong knowledge of US information reporting and withholding rules, including but not limited to Ch. 3, Ch. 4, Ch. 61 and the QI Agreement (US IRW), and an interest in and willingness to develop knowledge on taxation of financial products and other US federal, state and local tax matters.

Responsibilities: 

  • Advise front office teams, management, and tax operations on US IRW matters, including updating global organization on changes (and proposed changes) in law and requirements to comply with rules.
  • Review new business initiatives or transactions for US tax considerations (including US IRW) and provide tax technical advice to front office teams regarding the structuring and implementation of these initiatives or transactions.
  • Develop tax technical global policies and guidance for Group entities, including Qualified Intermediaries (QI) to assist with implementing and complying US IRW rules, and ensure policies and guidance are maintained through review and coordination with tax operations and global Compliance teams.
  • Lead domestic and global training on US IRW tax technical matters.
  • Coordinate closely within the US Tax Team to support tax return filings and audit topics related to US IRW.
  • Perform assigned secondary tax controls, assist in reviewing and implementing global control plans, and perform other delegated responsibilities to ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures.
  • Review and negotiate US tax provisions in market standard agreements through coordination with the Legal Department and relevant front office teams.
  • Engage with external advisers, as necessary, to validate guidance to be provided to internal or external stakeholders.
  • Serve as the principal point of contact to the IRS on behalf of the Group entities on all US IRW compliance matters.
  • Represent BNP Paribas on US IRW matters at industry advocacy groups.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • 4-7 years of related experience in a law firm, accounting firm or major financial institution.
  • Juris doctor, CPA and/or masters in taxation.
  • Professional standing, strong interpersonal communication skills, and presentation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with good intuitive reasoning and project management skills.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational and research skills.
  • High motivation with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Clear and concise communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of financial products.
  • Ability to explain complex US tax rules to non-tax professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $130,000 to $185,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
