Position Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Trade Syndications APAC, this position will primarily be supporting senior transactors in the distribution of supply chain financing transactions across APAC. This position will also be responsible for the distribution of LCs/documentary credits (FI risk) to other banks and institutional investors on funded/unfunded basis. 


Key Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

  • Support senior transactors in the origination and distribution (“OnD”) of all trade financing in APAC with a primary responsibility on LCs / Documentary Credits to banks and institutional investors on funded/unfunded basis.
  • While the emphasis is on transactions originated within Asia, there will also be close cooperation with Global Trade Syndication desks in Paris and New York to support transactions originated via BNPP global network by tapping our APAC investor base, and vice versa.
  • Maintain close interaction with internal stakeholders (e.g. Global Trade Services, Transaction Banking Group, FIG and Coverage), to understand their requirements, market our capabilities (e.g. regular market updates and pipeline meetings), and support their bids by advising and executing a syndicated solution.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other relevant internal departments (e.g. Risk IM, Credit Risk, Operations, etc) to ensure smooth execution of all primary syndication and secondary selldown mandates. 
  • Develop and maintain our global investor base including multilateral agencies (e.g. ADB/IFC), as well as working closely with Loan Syndicate (regional & global) to tap on their knowledge and investor base to enhance market penetration.
  • Gather secondary market intelligence - market capacity, pricing trend, new product / transaction structures, competitors’ development, etc.  
  • Negotiate and execute legal documentation, primarily Master Risk Participation Agreement (“MRPA”) with new bank investors, with the support of regional Legal or external legal counsel, to facilitate deal completion.
  • Ensure smooth execution and transaction settlement including performing KYC checks on potential investors. 
  • Perform all required regular internal/external reporting, and maintain transaction records including but not limited to DebtDomain, call reports and deal spreadsheets.
  • Support senior transactors in datamining, research, preparation of info memo, syndication launch and deal roadshow when necessary.
  • To lead/support any regional or global special projects involving TS APAC.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

  • Understanding of loan syndication, and good knowledge of trade finance products and risk (LCs, guarantees, supply chain transactions, etc) is essential. 
  • Highly numerate, with the ability and experience to understand trade and structured financing transactions. 
  • Good knowledge and experience in distributing trade and syndicated loans with a strong regional banks and institutional investor network.
  • Business acumen, commercial instinct and an ability to identify opportunities. Enjoys working in a fast pace environment.
  • Ability to influence at different levels within and outside of the organization. 
  • Articulate, self-motivated and naturally innovative person.
  • Ability to express, understand and discuss complex concepts with fluency, in spoken and written English & Chinese. Proficiency in Cantonese would be a plus.

 

Experience and Qualifications required

  • Understanding of loan syndication, and good knowledge of trade finance products and risk (LCs, guarantees, supply chain transactions, etc) is essential. 
  • University degree with a minimum 5-7 years of working experience in loan syndication, trade finance, and corporate banking.
