The position at a glance


The Data Steward position within the Finance COO - Data Office (FDO) serves as the primary liaison for the CIB Americas Finance & Tax department, ensuring the maintenance of an effective data governance framework. Reporting to the head of FDO, the Data Steward will be responsible for assessing, evaluating, and resolving data quality issues, formulating and proposing optimal data sourcing and maintenance strategy, and assist Finance & Tax management for the implementation of the strategy.

 

In detail

 

The Finance COO Office (FCOO) implements solutions for the Finance and Tax teams to achieve their goals. The FCOO connects teams within the Finance & Tax with various BNP Paribas groups, including front-line Business, Project Management Office (PMO), and Technology teams, across multiple locations globally.


The FCOO handles projects related to business and regulatory changes, strategic initiatives, and application reengineering to enhance functionality, efficiency, and data quality/control. The FDO ensures data quality through development of optimal data sourcing process, remediation or improvement initiatives, development and maintenance of data lineage and ownership, and performance of data quality check controls for ongoing monitoring.


The data steward will lead the business line stream, supporting Finance & Tax teams by analyzing data issues, investigating anomalies from data quality checks, and proposing and implementing data sourcing structures. This includes: 


    Elicit, analyze, and document business requirements and processes for data strategy implementation.

    Document existing and proposed workflows, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.

    Develop training plans for data elements introduced from new systems and processes.

    Support enhancement efforts of data control environment and upstream processes.

    Lead the remediation effort over issues related to data sourcing, data inaccuracy, and data compliance. Prepare and present these issues to the relevant data governance bodies.

    Ensure timely and quality delivery of assigned projects and activities.

    Coordinate with stakeholders across various locations including New York, New Jersey, Montreal, Mumbai, London, and Paris.



Work conditions: This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. This position requires little travel.


 

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed

 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field. 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in IT audit (external or internal) and/or IT control framework management and implementation within the financial services industry.
  • Atleast 3-5 years of experience in managing a team of business analysts.
  • Strong self-direction and initiative, with the ability to take complete ownership over projects and tasks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including expertise in business process and data analytics.
  • Knowledge of accounting and basic general ledger structures is required.
  • Experience must encompass business analysis, data sourcing and management, business/functional specification, and application testing.
  • Ability to understand financial products and system architectures, as well as accounting business processes including financial and management reporting (e.g., IFRS and US GAAP), month-end closing processes, regulatory reporting, entity consolidations, and multi-currency accounting.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the capability to multi-task and articulate complex issues clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in geographically dispersed cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Power platform.
  • Working knowledge of project management skills, JIRA, and SharePoint.
  • Working knowledge in python.
  • Experience in Alteryx flow designing/implementation.
  • Given the vast majority of our clients, both internal and external, are based outside of Quebec and Canada, specific language requirements may apply. Knowledge of  English is required.
