The position at a glance

 

This role is for a Director and Credit Officer within the RISK Team covering Financial Institutions. The business overview is as follows:

  • To advise the Bank on risk appetite definition 
  • To act as 2nd line of defense on risks taken on by the Bank, assuring alignment with policies and appetite
  • To report and alert Bank Management of the status of risks to which the Bank is exposed
  • To contribute to the development and growth of the risk culture within the Group


In detail

 

  • To serve as a credit officer (delegation holder / decision maker) for financial institution sectors with a focus on mortgage companies (specifically, mortgage REITs and non-bank mortgage originators), insurance companies, pensions, banks, broker dealers and/or CCPs within the Americas.  
  • This process includes reviewing comprehensive analyses and recommendations from credit analysts on the relevant sectors and institutions in each country, including credit limit, credit rating, and recovery rate recommendations; commentary on management; business strategies; financial profile, performance, and risks; and competitive positioning within the industry.
  • The larger Risk perimeter encompasses credit and counterparty risk, market risk, funding and liquidity risk, interest rate and FX risk of the Banking book, insurance risk, and operational risk
  • This role will have a primary focus on credit and counterparty risk.
  • Risk covers all Group’s activities and geographies.
  • To provide a holistic view of the risk profile to the Bank’s management and Board, RISK coordinates with the relevant control function(s) to ensure relevant risk assessment, aggregation, and reporting.
  • Provide a RISK opinion and delegation on capital markets and corporate banking credit risks generated by financial institutions in the Americas. 
  • Capital market transactions include products such as credit and equity derivatives, swaps, bond options, repos (including FABR and committed repo, along with repo on CRT, Non-QM, Agency MBS, and other securitized mortgage assets), foreign exchange, equity trading, and securities lending.  
  • Corporate Banking transactions include products such as mortgage warehouse facilities (including warehousing of Agency loans, prime jumbo loans, non-QM loans, and other mortgage assets), syndicated loan participation, letters of credit, and structured transactions. 
  • Responsibilities also extend to reviewing counterparty credit analysis and exposures provided by Credit Control and Reporting Team.  
  • Co-ordinate with Legal Department, relationship managers, product specialists, and credit analysts to execute legal documentation by providing credit-sensitive terms in legal documentation and collateral arrangements with financial institution clients.
  • Continuously interact with Marketers, Traders, Market Risk, Legal and Operations personnel to structure transactions, including mortgage warehouse facilities and structured repo, to mitigate diverse forms of risk.
  • Work closely with Relationship Managers, Transaction Team, Credit Analysts, and other Credit Officers to assist in structuring transactions to minimize un-due credit risk. 
  • Support all business lines credit requests / transactions for BNP Paribas Bank clients.
    • The priority is to opine on and challenge relevant credit applications and credit analysis to establish lines that are within the Bank’s risk tolerance.  
  • Provide credit parameters for legal documentation.  Additionally, ensure credit analyst review of all legal documentation at time of annual review, ensuring all necessary documents are in place (including guarantees) and being familiar with what products are covered and what credit terms are required under credit facilities, structured trades, ISDA/CSA, PSA, PSA/ISMA, MSFTA, and GMSLA. 

  • To be part of regulatory and internal exercises to coordinate exposure(s) or Counterparty data for larger BNPP needs.

  • Remain familiar with industry risks/trends, including credit issues, regulatory issues and legal issues, among others.

  • Embedded BNP Paribas Code of Conduct and DEI initiatives, Act as a senior champion of the BNP Paribas Code of Conduct, ensuring all credit decisions adhere to ethical standards and regulatory requirements. Expected to actively promote DEI, mentor under represented groups.

  • The candidate will provide a high level of decisions with expected credit delegation authority to opine on bank limits, guidelines, internal ratings, recovery rates, legal document terms, and other credit factors.

 

The strengths and skills that will help you succeed


  • BS/BA required with finance or economic backgrounds strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years previous experience in banking and/or credit risk experience on covered sectors and products with priority for mortgage sectors/mortgage warehouse facilities and insurance with secondary focus on other financial sectors.
  • Technical skills, advanced Excel, or coding skills.
