The position at a glance

 

This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the settlement flow between 2S Canada`s clients, counterparties, and Cash Management. The role works closely with Head of CDS Operation, the Head of Corp Action, and Head of Operations as a key senior stakeholder for 2S Local Custody (LC) operations, coordinating with Treasury and Payments teams. The line manager of Head of Settlement will be Head of 2S Operation.

The position requires client-facing, counterparty, and regulatory engagement, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.

 

 

In detail

 

The Head of Settlement & Account Management is responsible for:

 

 

  1. Securities Clearing & Settlement

 

  • Execute flawless and timely securities settlements across 
  • Escalate and resolve market-related issues with management in a proactive manner
  • Lead the Canadian settlement team (direct reports + matrix partners) and ensure day to day operational excellence across the full settlement lifecycle
  • Oversee communication between clients, BNPP’s custody platform, and Canadian depositories/agent banks (CDS, DTCC Canada)
  • Partner with Product, Relationship Management and CSMs to respond to RFPs, support client onboarding, and drive expansion of the Canadian custody product suite
  • Ensure all activities meet or exceed agreed Service Level Agreements; monitor and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and risk metrics
  • Lead resolution of BAU incidents, coordinate with global teams on escalations, and drive change initiatives that enhance settlement efficiency and control
  • Propose process improvements to enhance service quality for clients
  • Support Head of Tax Operations for payments (Corporate Actions & Tax Reclaims)

 

  1. IT Support & Projects

 

  • Collaborate with Product Management to develop and test new internal products/projects
  • Recommend system enhancements as needed
  • Maintain deep expertise in operational systems and their specifications
  • Support core banking, custody, and payment system developments/tests when required
  1. Team Focus

 

  • Foster collaboration among colleagues, ensuring mutual support
  • Train and mentor team members to disseminate knowledge
  • Execute backup responsibilities as assigned

 

  1. Market & Client Focus

 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with counterparties and local authorities
  • Monitor market trends and news relevant to clients/business and escalate to management as needed
  • Escalate client-related issues to Client Relationship Management before resolution when necessary

 

  1. 1LoD Controls

 

  • Execute 1LoD controls for Settlement activities per the control plan
  • Provide periodic evidence of 1LoD control execution
  • Review and update 1LoD controls in line with process changes

 

Staff supervision/ Organizational Structure: 

 

The line manager of Head of Settlement will be Head of 2S Operation.

 

Work conditions: This position provides for standard working conditions in an office and a normal work schedule from Monday to Friday. 

 

 

Education: 

 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Finance and Accounting 

 

Years of experience: 

 

  • 7 to 10 years of experience

 

Languages: 

 

  • English (Fluent)
  • French: desirable but not mandatory 

 

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

 

  • Proven experience with in-depth knowledge of Central Securities Depositories and Securities Settlement Systems as types of Financial Markets Infrastructure, including global regulatory frameworks, industry standards and operational resilience.

 

  • Strong expertise in risk identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring, specifically tailored to CSDs and SSS’s with knowledge of securities services products

 

  • In-depth understanding of key industry regulatory developments around securities settlement

 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior management effectively

 

  • Self-sufficient in your approach you will have demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and impact analysis to effectively navigate and adapt to evolving regulatory environments
