About Business line/Function: Local settlements
Position Purpose: As an Associate in the Local Settlements team, you will take ownership of end‑to‑end trade settlements across multiple markets, applying your solid grasp of the trade life‑cycle, clearing and settlement processes. Building on the foundation laid by junior analysts, you will lead the most critical settlement activities, mentor newer team members and act as the primary liaison between traders, custodians and external settlement centers. The role offers deep exposure to a variety of asset classes and products, allowing you to sharpen your expertise in clearing, custody and post‑trade operations while driving efficiency and risk mitigation. Responsibilities
Direct Responsibilities
· Clearing and Settlement Process:
- Execute end-to-end trade capture, ensuring every client instruction is entered accurately into the settlement system and transmitted to the relevant market terminal without exception.
- Coordinate with internal teams (operations, front office, IT) and external partners (custodians, market participants) to resolve static data, account set up, and manager level queries, guaranteeing uninterrupted settlement flows.
- Monitor inbound client trades, release them to the market, and provide real time status updates—including discrepancy identification, short position and cash reporting—while tracking the trade journey from market terminal to the BNP internal system.
- Perform systematic reconciliation between market terminal outputs and BNP records, confirming that no variance exists and documenting any exceptions for immediate remediation.
- Conduct pre-matching engagements with counterparties via phone or email to confirm trade details and enhance settlement efficiency.
- Investigate failed trades daily, determine the precise cause, and communicate a clear, actionable explanation to the client within agreed service level timelines.
· Risk Management:
- Apply all established control frameworks throughout the validation and settlement lifecycle, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal risk standards.
- Maintain a comprehensive daily checklist, recording completion of each task with supporting evidence to provide an auditable trail of activities.
- Escalate any control breaches or operational exceptions promptly to senior management and initiate corrective action plans.
- Monitor key risk indicators (e.g., settlement fails, mismatches, deadline breaches) and generate regular risk impact reports for the team lead.
· Other Responsibilities:
- Process a broad spectrum of products across APAC markets, including Australian equities, fixed income and bonds; Singapore equities, corporate and government bonds; and Hong Kong equities and bonds.
- Apply deep knowledge of depository, custody, and stock market mechanics to ensure accurate handling of settlement instructions for each jurisdiction.
- Act as the subject matter expert for audit inquiries related to depository and custody processes, preparing detailed responses and collaborating with internal audit teams.
- Support cross border settlement initiatives, ensuring alignment with local market conventions and regulatory requirements.
Contributing Responsibilities
- Generate ideas that streamline settlement workflows, reduce manual touchpoints, and improve overall process efficiency.
- Take ownership of procedural updates, ensuring all standard operating procedures (SOPs) reflect the latest operational practices and regulatory changes.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the full settlement life cycle, encompassing both pre settlement validation and post settlement match-off activities.
- Actively participate in testing cycles for process enhancements, providing critical feedback and validation of new functionality.
- Support cross training initiatives, offering expertise and coverage during peak periods to maintain service continuity across the team.
- Mentor junior analysts on best practice trade capture techniques, system intricacies, and jurisdiction specific settlement nuances, fostering the next generation of settlement professionals.
- Engage in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new settlement platform releases, delivering detailed, actionable feedback to the development team to ensure robust, production ready solutions.

- Deep Settlement Expertise – Proven mastery of the full trade‑life‑cycle, including trade capture, clearing, settlement, and post‑trade match-off across APAC equities, fixed‑income and bond markets, with an ability to diagnose and resolve complex fail‑trade scenarios swiftly.
- Collaborative Leadership – Demonstrates a team first mindset, readily sharing knowledge, mentoring junior analysts and coordinating with traders, custodians and technology partners to achieve seamless settlement outcomes.

Specific Qualifications:
· Graduates / Postgraduates (B. Com/MBA Finance preferred).
· Candidates should be willing and flexible to work in any shift.
· Relevant work experience in the Trade settlements / Custody activity/ Investment Banking operations.
