Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer – OpenShift & Virtualization

Department: CIB ITO Infrastructure

About Business line/Function: The Server Infrastructure team serves as a pivotal component of BNP Paribas' regional Hub in India, tasked with the supervision, monitoring, and development of the server infrastructure that underpins the bank's regional operations. In close collaboration with BNP Paribas Head Offices, where most major banking applications are hosted, the team plays a vital role in shaping the processes that inform decision-making around IT investments, foster client and supplier relationships, and drive project management initiatives. By leveraging their technical expertise and strategic insights, the Server Infrastructure team contributes significantly to the bank's ability to optimize its IT infrastructure and ensure seamless service delivery ultimately supporting the growth and success of our Organization BNP Paribas.

Position Purpose: DevOps who own the design, automation, and operation of our container native (OpenShift) and virtualized infrastructure that underpins critical banking applications. The ideal candidate brings 8 10years of hands-on experience in OpenShift, enterprise virtualization, and infrastructure as code, with strong Python and Terraform skills, and a proven track record of delivering secure, high throughput solutions for financial institutions.

Responsibilities

Direct Responsibilities

1)      Devlop, deploy, and manage production grade RedHat OpenShift clusters (multi AZ, hybrid cloud, and edge) that satisfy banking grade SLAs for availability, latency, and security.

2)      Design, provision, and maintain virtualized compute/storage/network layers (VMware vSphere, KVM, Hyper V, or similar) that host OpenShift and legacy workloads.

3)      Automate the full lifecycle of infrastructure and applications using Terraform, Python scripts, and configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).

4)      Implement CI/CD pipelines (GitOps – ArgoCD, Tekton, Jenkins, GitLab CI) for containerized banking services, enabling zero downtime releases and roll backs.

5)      Embed security & compliance (PCI DSS, ISO27001, RBI/CBI) through policy as code, RBAC, network segmentation, secret management, and automated vulnerability scanning.

6)      Monitor, observe, and troubleshoot performance (Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, Elastic, Jaeger) across OpenShift, VMs, and underlying hardware; lead RCA and continuous improvement initiatives.

Contributing Responsibilities

1)      Collaborate with application & security teams to containerize monolithic banking apps, optimize resource requests/limits, and enforce DevSecOps best practices..

2)      Drive GitOps and IaC standards across the organization; create reusable Terraform modules, Python libraries, and operator patterns for repeatable deployments.

3)      Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion a culture of automation, observability, and reliability.

4)      Stay current with emerging OpenShift features, virtualization trends, and AI Ops tools that can add value to the bank’s digital transformation.

Specific Qualifications:

o  RedHat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or RedHat Certified Specialist – OpenShift Administration.

o   VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (VCP DCV).
o   Relevant professional certifications (OpenShift, VMware, Terraform, AWS/Azure) are a strong advantage.

 

Skills Referential (Required knowledge, skills and abilities)

Technical Skills:

o  OpenShift - 8 10years of production experience – cluster installation, upgrades, operators, service mesh, GitOps

o  Virtualization - Deep expertise with VMware vSphere / KVM / Hyper V (vCenter, NSX, storage virtualization, resource planning).

o   Infrastructure as code - Terraform (modules, workspaces, remote back ends) + strong Python (3.x) for API automation, custom tooling, and testing..

o  CI/CD & GIT Ops - Hands on with ArgoCD, Tekton, Jenkins, GitLab CI; Helm charts and OpenShift Operators.

o  Observability - Prometheus, Grafana, Loki/Elastic, Jaeger/Zipkin, alerting & dashboarding.

 

Transversal Skills:

o    Banking / Regulatory - Direct experience delivering infrastructure solutions for banks or other highly regulated financial institutions; familiarity with PCI DSS, RBI/CBI, ISO27001, or similar frameworks.
o
    Security - Implementation of RBAC, network policies, secret management (HashiCorp Vault, SealedSecrets), and image/container vulnerability scanning (Trivy, Clair).

o   Collaboration & Leadership: Proven ability to work cross functionally, mentor junior staff, and influence architectural decisions.

Education Level: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent
