Business Overview:

Advisory Americas delivers advisory services for mergers and acquisitions, primary and secondary equity capital markets transactions as well as equity private placements. The team includes over 80 bankers located in New York, San Francisco, Mexico City, Bogota, São Paulo, and Santiago de Chile. Within Advisory Latin America, the team is based in New York and in Latin America, organized geographically along four regions: Mexico, Brazil, Andean Region (Bogota hub) and Southern Cone (Santiago hub), and covers all industries, with a particular sector focus on Low Carbon Transition (LCT), Infrastructure, Transportation & Environment (ITE), TMT, Financial Institutions, and Building Materials. BNP Paribas Advisory Americas is a leading M&A advisor in Latin America, commanding top M&A league table positions in several key markets in the region.

Responsibilities: 

This role encompasses a critical support in the marketing and execution of M&A transactions in accordance with BNP Paribas’ standards and processes.

  • With respect to the origination efforts:
    1. Participate in the preparation of pitches and marketing materials in compliance with BNP Paribas’ internal rules and templates
    2. Perform industry and company specific research, and strategic analyses using BNP Paribas analysis matrices
  • With respect to the execution efforts:
    1. Perform financial analysis and build detailed financial models presenting balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statements as well as key operating KPIs
    2. Perform business valuations utilizing the discounted cash flow valuation methodologies as well as public market and transaction multiples in accordance with BNP Paribas’ BVT (“Business Valuation Team”) internal methodologies, in particular regarding: cost of capital computation model (proprietary direct method), comparable companies’ beta deleveraging (factoring in beta of pension assets and liabilities)
    3. Assist, in coordination with senior team member, in the communication with clients and delivery of selected sections of pitches and execution analyses
    4. Manage the day-to-day operations of executing all aspects of an M&A transaction (i.e., preparation of information materials, conducting financial analyses, coordination with outside lawyers / accountants, assisting the team with client matters on a day-to-day basis, etc.) for both buy-side or a sell-side deal.
    5. Drive due diligence processes, coordinating the efforts of third party advisers, as well as our client's teams, in particular in managing the exchange of information, preparing and reviewing Q&As and ensuring an efficient flow of data and documents with third party advisers
  • In general:
    1. Mentor and Develop junior team members on transactions, marketing, research, pitch preparation, and deal execution
    2. Complying with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, procedures, Group compliance standards, as well as with the 7 themes and the anti-corruption addendum of the Code of Conduct: Customers‘ interest, Financial Security, Market Integrity, Professional ethics, Respect for Persons, Group Protection, and Involvement within Society - and notably the completion of mandatory trainings in due time
    3. Assist in the implementation of BNP Paribas’ internal project administration processes and ensure compliance in internal project administration tools
    4. Perform autonomous industry and company specific research, and strategic analyses using BNP Paribas analysis matrix
    5. Build and regularly update mapping of LCT & ITE market players (incumbents, strategics, financial investors) across BNP Paribas sector verticals of expertise (power generation, transmission and distribution; gas transmission and distribution; toll roads; airports; ports; railway operators; e-mobility; water production, distribution and treatment; advanced recycling techniques & waste management) in all priority LatAm markets: Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil, Central America & the Caribbean
    6. Communicate efficiently the results of different assignments or analyses
    7. Represent professional standards of conduct with colleagues, clients and third parties
    8. Deliver tasks assigned within required timeline
    9. Provide all other support as assigned

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics
  • Experience working / interning in a bulge bracket or large boutique investment banking, private equity, consulting or a Big Four accounting firm
  • Strong data management and research skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Knowledge of corporate finance theory
  • Working proficiency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written. Proficiency in a third language widely spoken in the Americas region (Brazilian Portuguese, French) is a plus
  • Technical proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Power Point

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Demonstrated record of academic excellence
  2. 12-18 months of work experience in M&A, Leveraged Finance, or Private Equity
  3. Prior experience with valuation assignments
  4. Experience in M&A sell-side and buy-side processes
  5. Knowledge of Latin America, including specific economic, business and cultural differences across countries of the region

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $110,000 to $130,000 annually. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business line, and geographic/office location.
