Language Requirement: Japanese (High Fluent/ Native) , English (Business)


Position Purpose

Coverage banker with primary responsibility for a portfolio of complex and highly sophisticated Japanese Corporate clients. Also responsible for coaching and mentoring junior members (associates & analysts).


Key Responsibilities

BNP Paribas Tokyo Branch is seeking to fill a Relationship Manager position within the Corporate Coverage Department as a replacement. Coverage is a product-neutral and sector-neutral business (or front office) unit dedicated to large and high-profile Japanese corporate clients to promote a large array of multi-product locally and on a global basis (CIB and non-CIB products). The Relationship Manager is to achieve the following business objectives:

  • Originate and execute corporate banking transactions and investment banking transactions in collaboration with Business Lines (onshore and offshore) and with various stakeholders.
  • Realize revenue target of clients in portfolio.
  • Propose optimal usage of capital and resources in the framework of CIB.
  • Monitor credit risk on clients in portfolio and conduct internal control.
  • The Relationship Manager is to maintain and develop long-term client relationships:
  • Build a global view and strategy on client activities and needs.
  • Map, maintain, and develop contacts at clients.
  • Lead Business Lines and international network to build, maintain, and develop global relationships with clients.


Competencies (Technical / Behavioral)

  • At least 15 years in the banking industry.
  • Over 15 years of experience in dealing with Japanese large corporate clients.
  • Broad knowledge of Japanese industrial sector, large multinational Japanese corporates, corporate banking, and investment banking products, financial accounting, and credit analysis, financial market, banking operation, risk management, as well as rules and regulations.
  • High level of cross-cultural communication skills with good written and oral communication both in English and Japanese.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Strong commitment and commercial skills with capacity for origination and customer proximity.
  • Result-driven.
  • Team player with autonomy, involvement, adaptability.
  • Proactivity, open-mindedness, and intellectual curiosity.
