Job Title: Senior Power BI developer

About Business line/Function: BNP Paribas Fortis is a key player on the Belgian market and a driver of economic growth. Within the entity Payments (=beating heart of the bank), you will be part of the squad ‘IPCCIB’, team responsible for the development & maintenance of the International Payments. We deliver new functionalities and enhancements on a frequent basis.
Position Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Power BI Developer to design, develop, and optimize enterprise‑wide analytics solutions. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Power BI (data modelling, visualization, and DAX) with strong business‑analysis skills to deliver performant, self‑service dashboards that empower our payment‑services stakeholders. The role requires the ability to work independently, lead technical discussions, and collaborate effectively with on‑shore teams.
Responsibilities
Direct Responsibilities
· Build end‑to‑end Power BI solutions – data models, dataflows, reports, and dashboards – following best‑practice design patterns (star‑schema, aggregation tables).
· Write, optimize, and maintain complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and tables (time‑intelligence, row‑level security, dynamic KPIs).
· Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks (model size, query load, visual rendering) by applying indexing, aggregations, incremental refresh, and best‑practice DAX patterns.
· Monitor existing Power BI reports and dashboards in production; troubleshoot data‑refresh failures, performance degradation, visual bugs, and security issues.
· Provide timely resolution and communicate impact to business users; implement enhancements and hot‑fixes as required.
· Apply data‑governance policies (security groups, workspace/app permissions, row‑level security).
Produce technical documentation, data dictionaries, and version‑control artefacts (Git/DevOps).
· Implement automated testing (e.g., Power BI test framework, DAX Studio validation) and conduct rigorous peer reviews.
· Work closely with development teams and Business Analysts to troubleshoot data inconsistencies and resolve functional issues.
· Produce complex SQL queries when needed for data validation, source‑system profiling, or ad‑hoc analysis.
Contributing Responsibilities
Technical & Behavioral Competencies
· 6‑8 years of professional experience building Power BI solutions.
· Expert‑level DAX proficiency – advanced calculations, variables, iterators, and performance tuning.
· Strong Database knowledge in the areas of general SQL and usage of Microsoft SQL Server
· Good troubleshooting skills to resolve any production issue in the existing reports
· Excellent verbal and written communication – able to convey technical concepts to both IT and Business audiences.
· Proactive mindset with strong ownership of deliverables.
· Strong analytical ability; problem‑solving orientation.
· Agile‑savvy – comfortable working in Scrum/Kanban environments.
Specific Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
· Minimum 6‑8 years of hands‑on experience as a Power BI / Business Intelligence developer, with a proven track‑record of delivering production‑grade dashboards.
· Demonstrated expertise in DAX and large‑scale data‑model optimization.
· Experience working in an Agile delivery environment and collaborating with on‑shore stakeholders.
