The role

This role is based in the in-house Legal team and will be accountable for advising on, reviewing and drafting commercial contracts (including bids) for clients and suppliers. 

Responsibilities

• Review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of agreements, providing sound commercially focussed and pragmatic advice to the business, always having close regard to the risk exposure of the company arising from such contracts.
• Provision of clear and objective advice in relation to the management of contracts including any disputes and litigation arising pursuant to them.
• Work in conjunction with the Commercial Legal team, Commercial Service lines and Central Functions.
• Maintain and build strong, constructive and strategic relationships across the business and the wider BNP Paribas Group, as well as with the company’s clients and external advisers.
• Identify and develop opportunities to enhance the business.
• Manage projects which require cross-functional and cross-border co-operation.
• Lead and/or contribute to company projects.
• Proactively maintain an up-to-date knowledge of legal developments (including developments in relevant areas of statute and case-law) and circulate updates to the team to ensure that the advice given to the business is correct, relevant and commercially pragmatic. 

Person specification

• Qualifying Law degree (2:1 or higher) from a university in a common law jurisdiction.
• Completed LPC (Commendation or above) or BVC.
• Demonstrable record of post-qualification experience with solid experience in commercial contract matters.
• Experience of other areas such as litigation, employment, regulatory and intellectual property would be advantageous but not essential. 
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisation and time management skills are essential.
• Comfortable taking on unfamiliar tasks and areas of law.  This is a varied role within the company, and you will be expected to liaise with and advise employees across all areas of the business requiring you to be approachable with a solid grounding in key areas but also enjoy the challenge of new and unfamiliar areas. 

Essential experience

• Demonstrable record of delivery in commercial contract law.
• Previous experience of an in-house legal department or other large commercial organisation is desirable but not essential.
