Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer – Virtualization & OpenShift
Department: CIB ITO Infrastructure
About Business line/Function: The Server Infrastructure team serves as a pivotal component of BNP Paribas' regional Hub in India, tasked with the supervision, monitoring, and development of the server infrastructure that underpins the bank's regional operations. In close collaboration with BNP Paribas Head Offices, where most major banking applications are hosted, the team plays a vital role in shaping the processes that inform decision-making around IT investments, foster client and supplier relationships, and drive project management initiatives. By leveraging their technical expertise and strategic insights, the Server Infrastructure team contributes significantly to the bank's ability to optimize its IT infrastructure and ensure seamless service delivery ultimately supporting the growth and success of our Organization BNP Paribas.
Position Purpose: DevOps professional whose core expertise lies in enterprise virtualization and whose secondary skill set includes Red Hat OpenShift. The role will own the design, automation, and operation of highly‑available virtualised infrastructure that powers our mission‑critical banking applications. Strong hands‑on experience with Python, Terraform, and a background in regulated financial services is essential.
Responsibilities
Direct Responsibilities
1) Design, build, and operate large scale virtualised environments (VMware vSphere, KVM, Hyper V, or Nutanix) that meet banking grade performance, availability, and security requirements.
2) Automate provisioning, scaling, patching, and disaster recovery of VMs and associated networking/storage using Terraform and custom Python tooling.
3) Deploy and maintain OpenShift clusters (secondary focus) for containerised workloads, integrating them seamlessly with the underlying virtualised fabric.
4) Create and manage CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Argo CD, Tekton) that deliver both VM based and container based services with zero downtime releases.
5) Implement security and compliance controls (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, RBI/CBI) via policy as code, role based access, network segmentation, and automated vulnerability scanning.
6) Develop observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki/Elastic, Jaeger) to monitor VM health, OpenShift clusters, and application performance; drive RCA and continuous improvement.
Contributing Responsibilities
1) Collaborate with application, security, and networking teams to migrate legacy banking workloads to virtualised or containerised platforms, ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance.
2) Mentor junior engineers and champion best practice automation, IaC, and DevSecOps culture across the organization.
3) Document architecture, run books, and compliance evidence for audit and knowledge transfer purposes.
4) Stay current with emerging virtualization technologies (e.g., vSphere 8, KubeVirt) and OpenShift features that can add value to the bank’s digital roadmap.

Technical Skills:
o Virtualization - 8 10 years of production experience with VMware vSphere (vCenter, NSX) or equivalent
(KVM, Hyper V, Nutanix); deep knowledge of compute, storage, and network virtualization.
o OpenShift - Practical experience deploying and managing OpenShift clusters (1 2 years is sufficient as secondary skill).
o Infrastructure as code - Strong Terraform proficiency (module development, workspaces, remote state) and solid Python programming (3.x) for API automation, custom CLI tools, and testing frameworks.
o CI/CD & GIT Ops - Hands on with GitLab CI/Jenkins, and at least one GitOps tool (Argo CD, Tekton).
o Observability - Experience with Prometheus/Grafana, log aggregation (Loki/Elastic), and distributed tracing (Jaeger/Zipkin).
Transversal Skills:
o Banking / Regulatory - Direct experience delivering infrastructure solutions for banks or other highly regulated financial institutions; familiarity with PCI DSS, RBI/CBI, ISO 27001, or similar frameworks.
o Security - Implementation of RBAC, network policies, secret management (HashiCorp Vault, SealedSecrets), and image/container vulnerability scanning (Trivy, Clair).
o Collaboration & Leadership: Proven ability to work cross functionally, mentor junior staff, and influence architectural decisions.

Education Level: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Equivalent
