Business Area


Global Markets is BNP Paribas’ Capital Markets business within Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB), delivering solutions across asset classes, and industry-leading services for clients including Institutional, corporate, private banks and retail distribution networks. Our Portugal Platform (Porto and Lisbon) is a major HUB in Europe and certainly unique in the country by its size and its scope of activity, with all Front Office roles present (Trading, Sales, Research, Structuring, Quant & Engineering, Business Dev and Support, Marketing & Client Support, Risk Management, Data Analytics and Machine Learning…). We are growing fast with the ambition to become even more relevant for the worldwide activity, which presents many short and long-term opportunities.


Markets 360 is made up of around 100 economists, strategists and analysts across the Americas, Western Europe, CEEMEA and Asia Pacific, who work closely together to create cross-asset perspectives. 


With a focus on value-added research and thought leadership, the aim is to publish clear, timely and thought-provoking pieces on topics ranging from financial and economic forecasts to in-depth analysis of particular assets, economies and themes.


The GM Data and AI Lab team is a small team of data scientists applying the latest techniques in Artificial Intelligence, Data modelling and Natural Language Processing to strategic projects for the business. 


This role will be in London, working alongside the AI Lab and the Markets 360 teams.


Job Purpose 


The role is to assist the team with the day-to-day business activities under supervision.


Key Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with our GM Data and AI Lab teams to design, implement, and optimize AI solutions for various projects
  • Conduct independent research to identify opportunities for leveraging AI technology within the Markets 360 investment research domain
  • Contribute to the development of systematic and industrialized AI solutions to enhance investment strategies
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of AI technologies into our existing infrastructure
  • Stay updated on the latest AI advancements and industry trends to continuously improve our Markets 360 research efforts


Requirements


  • Master’s degree in a numeric subject with understanding of economics and markets (e.g. Economics with a speciality in Econometrics, Finance, Computer Science, Applied Maths, Engineering, Physics)
  • Strong background in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Finance
  • Knowledge of key concepts in Statistics and Mathematics such as Probability Theory, Inference, and Linear Algebra
  • Programming skills in Python and knowledge of common numerical and machine-learning packages (NumPy, scikit-learn, pandas, Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing AI solutions, with a focus on large language models and natural language processing
  • Passion for AI technology and a proven track record of personal research in the field
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to manage projects efficiently, including planning, execution, and monitoring
  • Awareness of ethical considerations and implications of AI technologies, and a commitment to responsible AI development
  • Understanding of the financial industry and investment research, including relevant regulations and compliance requirements
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest AI advancements and industry trends


It will be a nice plus if you have:


  • Involvement with the Data Science community through platforms such as Kaggle, Numerai, Open ML, or others
  • Knowledge of big data solutions (Kibana, Hadoop, Spark)
  • Proven record of having successfully carried out independent research from exploring large datasets
  • Knowledge of current Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence literature
  • Experience with other programming languages (C, C++, Ada, C#, Java, JavaScript)
  • Wide IT culture: OS, parallelization, network, software engineering, new languages
